Code Pink Tries to Arrest Karl Rove

Added: October 21Run TIme: 01:06

A woman tried to “arrest” Karl Rove for treason while the former White House aide was appearing at a meeting of the Mortgage Bankers Association yesterday in San Francisco, according to KGO-TV.

“Rove tried to elbow her away before she was taken offstage,” The New York Times reports.

In a statement to the Associated Press, Code Pink, an anti-war group, identified the woman as Janine Boneparth.

Judiciary Committee approves resolution holding Rove in contempt of Congress

The House Judiciary Committee has voted 20-14 to approve a contempt of Congress resolution against former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove for his failure to appear after a Congressional subpoena.

Voting along party lines Wednesday morning, the committee said Rove broke the law by failing to appear at a July 10 hearing on allegations of White House influence over the Justice Department, including whether Rove encouraged prosecutions against Democrats.

“Today’s vote was an important statement by this Committee that no person – not even Karl Rove – is above the law.” Judiciary Chairman John Conyers

Rove skips hearing for paid speech at seaside resort

While House Democrats fumed over the absence of Karl Rove from hearings investigating his possible interference in the Justice Department, the man himself was well on his way to the Yalta Black Sea resort, Newsweek reported Saturday.

“That’s just extremely contemptuous—it shows the disdain that he has for Congress and which he has encouraged in the Bush White House,” said Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee.

Rove’s lawyer Robert Luskin defended his actions as justifiable given that White House counsel Fred Fielding instructed Rove not to show up because anything he said was protected by executive privilege.

Hold Karl Rove in contempt and send him to jail

We call on the the House Judiciary Committee to cite Rove with contempt for failing to comply with a Congressional subpoena. Since Rove regards the law with such contempt, it’s high time the law and Congress hold him in contempt as well. We demand the HJC let Rove know he can’t decide which subpoenas he obeys and which he ignores.

Rove Tries To Rewrite History

Last night on The Charlie Rose Show, former Bush political adviser Karl Rove claimed that he was “opposed” to holding the pre-war Iraq vote just ahead of the 2002 elections. “The administration was opposed to voting on it in the fall of 2002,” Rove said. He stated that his upcoming book will argue that the administration did not want to schedule an Iraq war vote prior to the 2002 elections:

ROSE: But you were opposed to the vote.

ROVE: It happened. We don’t determine when the Congress vote on things. The Congress does.

ROSE: You wish it hadn’t happened at that time. You would have preferred it did not happen at that time.

ROVE: That’s right.

Bush “I will resist all attempts to subpoena WH officials”

With the heat coming down on the White House and Attorney General, President Bush addressed the media today and went on the defensive against Democrats, accusing them of trying to “score political points” rather than seeking the truth. He promised to resist all WH subpoenas and insisted that his deal to let Rove and Miers “meet” with members of Congress is more than generous.

President Bush kept making the point over and over that allowing his staff members (i.e. Karl Rove) to testify under oath would hamper his ablility to “get quality advice,” but as ThinkProgress noted earlier today, 31 of Clinton’s top aides testified before Congress on 47 different occasions. Something tells me that this fact won’t preclude the Bush-apologists from invoking Clinton again, though.
