Obama targets Fox News at town hall

In his 100th-day town hall meeting in St. Louis Wednesday, President Barack Obama took direct aim at the anti-tax “tea party” demonstrations .

Politico notes that it was a “veiled shot at the Fox News Channel, the cable news network closely associated with the protests.”

“When you see, you know, those of you who are watching certain news channels that on on which I’m not very popular and you see folks waving tea bags around,” the President said. “Let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our healthcare costs down over the long term, how we’re going to stabilize social security.”

Huffington Post’s Sam Stein observes, “The shot across the bow at the Tea Party demonstrators follows prior administration efforts to paint those protests as decidedly non-reality based affairs.”

Glen Beck fails to debunk FEMA camps

Continuing his assigned role as corporate media siren of the apocalypse, Glenn Beck interrupted a discussion on Russia and Iran last night on Fox & Friends to mention a heretofore no-no for national television — FEMA camps. At two minutes into the video below, Beck declares he attempted to “debunk these FEMAS camps” because he is “tired of hearing about them,” but was unable to do so. “We now for several days have done research on them… I can’t debunk them.” Beck follows this with a declaration that the United States may be headed for totalitarianism.

The existence of FEMA detention camps is a well-documented fact. In January 2006, Haliburton subsidiary KBR announced that it had been awarded a $385 million contract to construct the camps for the Department of Homeland Security. In a press release issued on January 24, 2006, KBR said the “contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to augment existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations (DRO) Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs.” Continue reading

(VIDEO) Obama called on Fox News reporter for first-time since elect

A few days ago, we related how President-Elect Barack Obama had been ignoring Fox News at his post-election press conferences. Patrick Gavin had Fox going 0-5, with even CBS’ embarrassing complaint-ridden Dean Reynolds getting an inquiry in ahead of the network. Well, according to Michael Calderone, the ice age between Obama and Fox News has begun to thaw:

It took six press conferences since Election Day, but Fox News has finally been called on.
