BART Shooting Incident update

SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) — The Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Department will soon relegate its internal affairs investigation into the fatal New Year’s Day shooting of an unarmed man to an independent, outside agency, BART spokesman Linton Johnson told CNN Thursday.

The internal affairs investigation differs from the criminal investigation being conducted by the office of Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff.

The shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant III by former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle has sparked a public outrage aimed at the transit agency. Mehserle, 27, was charged with murder January 13, six days after resigning from the BART police force. He pleaded not guilty three days later.

This is the KTVU report on the Bart Police shooting that occurred on 1/1/09.
