President Bush makes a statement congratulating President-elect Barack Obama and calling for a smooth transition, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush embraced Barack Obama’s election victory Wednesday, saying he understands the message of change that was the centerpiece of Obama’s campaign.

“It will be a stirring sight to see President Obama, his wife, Michelle, and their beautiful girls step through the doors of the White House,” the president said. “I know millions of Americans will be overcome with pride at this inspiring moment that so many have waited so long.”

Bush called Obama’s win an “impressive victory” and said it represented strides “toward a more perfect Union.” He said the choice of Obama was “a triumph of the American story, a testament to hard work, optimism and faith in the enduring promise of our nation.”

I do feel it but I dont think its brand new, I didnt wake up with it, Ive had it for a while, I dont think the election was a surprise, but the rhetoric is getting pretty strong and they are getting very bold. he commented. Continue reading

Obama Offers White House Chief of Staff Job to Rep. Rahm Emanuel

Obama offered the job of chief of staff to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, ABC News’ Jake Tapper reported today.

Emanuel, a veteran of President Clinton’s administration and a close political ally of Obama’s from Chicago, hasn’t immediately given his answer.

Obama likes that Emanuel knows policy, knows politics and knows Capitol Hill and has told associates that he knows Emanuel will have his back,” ABC News’ chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos said of the offer.
